Ten percent of the world’s population suffers from diabetes — nearly 9 percent in the U.S. — in large part due to the obesity problem sweeping the developed nations. However, diabetes sufferers who monitor their blood sugar cost the health care system a tenth as much as those who don’t — $6,000 a year versus $60,000 in the U.S., which puts a big dent in the $150 billion spent each year on the disease.
I feel that there is a unique opportunity to design a product and an ecosystem that improves upon the current experience for monitoring, regulating and reporting personal bio-data for a diabetic individual.
Toddler Toy Design
The design goal for this project was to work with industry partners to gain a deep understanding of issues related to the project concept and to design a develop final concept model.
During the course of this project I learned how work in a team environment, research user needs, human factors, aesthetic issues, manufacturing requirements and market demands to identify user needs and product opportunities in the area of toddler toy design.
The challenge in this particular type of design was how to uphold the Kids II tradition of creating innovative products, while always believing there’s a new way to make kids smile just waiting to be invented, and that even timeless favorites can be improved upon.
In my final design I sought to accomplish this design goal by designing a product that combines the latest innovations in technology with enduring traditional concepts.
The Physique eyewear line was designed to be produced under the in-house branding of the McGee Group. The current in-house brand under the McGee Group targets a much more mature demographic.
The target demographic that I chose to design for is the urban young male professional who maintains an active lifestyle and seeks eyewear that represents both their athletic and business prowess in their leisure time.
The inspiration for the Physique eyewear line was influenced by an several design fields, such as architecture, jewelry, fabrics and automotive design. Combining the innovative design spirit from these various fields with the entrepreneurial zeal of the business world was the goal of the eyewear line.
My approach for this project came from my personal experience in using the stylus that came with my current tablet. Although this particular concept was completely not related to school, I still tried to put critical design thought into the shape and form of the model.
I researched current stylus pens in the market and also any other writing instruments that I thought would aid in understanding the overall design form for writing tools.
The concept and model development phases were brief due to the fact that I was only pursuing the design in my off-time when i wasn’t busy with school assigned projects.
During the concept development of the stylus I tried to explore several ergonomic designs. I also sought to maximize the usability of the stylus by elongating the grip portion of the shaft’s body.
The design goal for this project is to allow natural design elements found in nature to inspire me to mimic those same natural elements into an existing product or a fictional product.
I chose the primary inspiration in nature to come from the lotus flower. I personally find the lotus flower intriguing and beautiful in its form. Upon doing further research I discovered that the lotus is a symbol of the sun, of creation and rebirth. At night, the flower closes up and sinks underwate only to rise and blossom again at dawn.
In my final design I tried to mimic this process in a figurative sense in order to give the speaker design a more natural and organic form.
Battery-powered camping lanterns can make your camping an experience to remember. You can easily bring these lanterns along with you and packing them together with the rest of your camping gear is not a problem.
It is easy to use as well easy to bring along with you. Its size and lightness makes it simply manageable for many camping activities. Battery camping lanterns make good substitute for your conventional lamp.
For this project I chose to use an Ozark Trail battery camping lantern as the product for disassembly. This specific camping lantern is powered by four D-Cell batteries and uses a 9-Watt fluorescent U-Tube bulb for illumination. Through my product research and disassembly analysis I’ve listed the various parts and components used in the assembly of the camping lantern.
My design direction for this project was to integrate any naturally occuring pattern in nature into any product. My primary inspiration was the recucring vein pattern found on the back of a leaf.
I was also influenced by secondary inspiration images of other organically designed products that I discovered upon further research.
I chose to design a speaker for Bose Audio to challenge my own deisgn interpretation adeptness and to try and reiterate their own design language into a product concept intended for production.
